I'M MARGARET MILLER
As a child, my sister and I, for 3 summers, visited my aunt in Washington, D.C. We were encouraged to visit museums while she was at work. Many days we chose the National Gallery of Art, this began my appreciation of art and the inspiration to be an artist myself. With my parent’s support I spent most of my youth painting and in private lessons. Later I graduated from the University of Arts in Philadelphia,
My 30-year career at ExxonMobil as the multi-media team lead was successful and rewarding. I also continued to paint to fulfill my desire for self-expression and attended artist workshops led by nationally known contemporary artists: Kevin Macpherson, David Shevlino, Mark Daniel Nelson, Peggi Kroll Roberts, and Carol Marine.
Visual art is my perfect outlet, and it is the place where my imagination is released. I like to investigate the sense of emotions that can be tapped with the use of color. Seeing the beauty in nature, I make a sketch of the scene, along with notes about what attracted me to the spot. I take a photograph and finish the painting in my studio at home. The style that is most dear to my heart is Impressionism. Working in oils, capturing the play of light, tone, color, and atmosphere is key to linking the viewer with my art.
More about sketches... I often prepare several sketches in preparation for a painting. These sketches are not intended for anything other than steps in preparing a piece of art and are not shared. However, from time to time I enjoy sketching on a tablet. This helps me break free if I am feeling blocked. The sketch is almost like a painting, in that, it’s not intended to capture a portrait but a feeling or an impression. In the Nudes and Sketches tab, you will see examples of my work from life drawing sessions and scenes from my home.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
